Power
Water is a critical component in power generation. CWT's products and services help the industry to meet the wide variety of purified water and wastewater challenges.
CWT's water treatment systems are designed to meet the power industry's requirements for high purity boiler makeup water. Ultra pure water systems produce water that meets the rigorous specifications for nuclear steam generators, coal fired supercritical systems, gas turbine combined cycle facilities, gas turbine peaking plants, and co-generation facilities.
CWT's membrane treatment systems, ion exchanger (IX), and evaporation technologies are used to meet the most stringent water quality requirements. A variety of treatment systems are also available for de-oxygenation and removal of other dissolved gases from makeup water to steam generation systems.
CWT's wastewater treatment reuse systems are able to treat municipal wastewater for a variety of industrial uses, including de-mineralized water. The ability to convert municipal wastewater to high purity water helps power plant developers eliminate water as a variable in plant sitting, while increasing goodwill in the community by conserving local resources used for drinking water.
Mining
Today's mining and smelting industries are faced with numerous environmental issues regarding wastewater containment and disposal. Many facilities have large holding ponds containing mining waste and some operations have contaminated groundwater supplies with mining waters. Other facilities have wastewater streams that often do not meet increasingly stringent discharge limits.
Wastewater from various sources can be recycled to produce high quality water for reuse. In some cases, valuable mining by-products can be recovered for resale or reuse using CWT membrane and thermal product systems. Examples of waste streams requiring treatment include:
Containment pond leachate
Cooling tower blowdown
De-mineralizer concentrate and regeneration wastes
High total dissolved solids (TDS) effluents
Mine drainage
Reverse osmosis (RO) reject
Scrubber blowdown
CWT¡¯s Distinct Experience Advantage
CWT has a great deal of experience in solving challenging wastewater recycling and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) applications in the mining and smelting industries. With a broad cross-section of experienced engineers and chemists, CWT is well prepared to solve your wastewater problems.
CWT offers comprehensive services including wastewater definition, conceptual system development, laboratory analysis, bench-scale and pilot testing, equipment supply, and turn-key project execution. Whether it is maximum wastewater recovery, waste minimization, by-product recovery, or zero liquid discharge (ZLD), customers can have confidence in CWT to design and supply the most economical and complete solutions.
Microelectronics
CWT has built a strong reputation in the microelectronics industry for supplying the highest quality water treatment equipment and turn-key ultra pure water (UPW) systems. This is combined with unparalleled operation and maintenance (O&M) services as well as superior ion exchange (IX) regeneration services.
The microelectronics industry uses UPW as its primary silicon wafer cleaning agent, to rinse circuits, channels, and gates of the chemicals used in the manufacturing process. Inorganic salts and organic matter remaining or deposited on the wafer surface during processing will directly affect the number of usable devices produced from the silicon wafer. Rinsing with ultra pure water can substantially increase plant production yield. Since ultra pure water comes into contact with the wafer surface multiple times during manufacturing, water must be of the highest purity.
Water management and supply capabilities for the microelectronics industry include:
operation and maintenance (O&M) services
Complete turn-key UPW systems
High quality ion exchange resin regenerations
Mobile emergency and supplemental UPW Systems
PVDF distribution loop designs and installation
Reclaim/recycle systems
UPW equipment including pretreatment, reverse osmosis (RO), degasification, electro deionization (EDI), demineralization, ultraviolet sterilization, ozonation, and ultra filtration (UF)
Wastewater and chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) post treatment systems
Product platforms include: standard or custom land-based systems for permanent installation, or containerized systems for mobile treatment, providing customers the option to either purchase their UPW system or use CWT's industrial water outsourcing services.
Chemical
In all refining and petrochemical facilities, water is one of the plant¡¯s basic utilities. With the increase in demand for refined energy products, the quality and quantity of refinery water is essential to sustaining plant output.
The quality of the plant water is critical to minimizing plant outages and refinery equipment maintenance. For example, the presence of oil in the condensate reduces the efficiency of the boilers and increases the make-up volume required to maintain continuous operation. Poor boiler make-up quality also contributes to premature boiler component failure.
Considering that a high percentage of energy resource exploration and refining is done in areas where water is scarce, the use of technologies to save or reuse water helps plant production by reducing a facility¡¯s burden on local water resources. This improves the long-term production economics while extending plant production capability without the need for additional raw water supplies.
Water management capabilities include:
Boiler feed make-up
Condensate de-oiling
Condensate polishing
Cooling water recycling and treatment for reuse
Primary water desalination and demineralization
Raw water pretreatment, coagulation, settling and filtration
Wastewater recycling and reuse

Sea water desalination
The world¡¯s water consumption rate is doubling every 20 years, outpacing by two times the rate of population growth. With persistent regional droughts, shifts of the growing population to urban coastal cities, and the water needed for industrial growth, it is projected that by the year 2025 water demand will exceed supply by 56%.
To meet this growing domestic and industrial demand for a safe potable water supply, there is a critical worldwide need to better manage the existing limited resources with improved water conservation techniques, increase the use of wastewater reclamation, and the development of sustainable new water sources.
Oceans make up 97% of the world¡¯s supply of water. Desalination using seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) membrane technology has become a viable option for the development of new regional water supplies.
CWT is the world leader in the supply of reliable seawater SWRO membrane desalination systems. With years of seawater SWRO desalination operating and maintenance experience, CWT leads the industry in its practical knowledge of SWRO membrane design, SWRO membrane pretreatment design, SWRO membrane cleaning techniques, energy recovery devices, and the selection of material for construction.
